The Axes Of Awareness: How Centers of Awareness Function (The Body/Instinct/Mind and Feeling/Instinct/Mind)
Mind Map Summary
By: Eleanor Haspel-Portner, Ph.D.
There are Two Distinct Axes through which humans process information for cognitive interpretation. Information flows through the body's nervous system and is organized through Three Centers of Awareness: the Splenic, the Solar Plexus, and the Ajna Centers. Each Awareness Center has its own characteristics and processes information in its own way.
The way the Center activates in an individual, and the layer at which it activates, determines how they process and respond to inner and outer stimuli.

Ajna Gates
Interpretive Hub
Body/Feeling/Instinct/Mind
Human Cognition |
- Is the Key Center for Language.
- Translates what the mind registers for interpretation.
- Is essential for expression of our self through actions or in words in order to communicate with others and with ourself consciously.
- Translates all cognition into some form.
- Can express sound into actions.
- Is the Hub of Human Cognition and Intelligence.
- Reinterprets information from the Body and from Feelings.
- Determines how we express ourselves in the world and to ourselves.
- Modifies Self-talk.
- Operates interpretively on an unconscious automatic level during sleep in conjunction with the Sacral Center.
- Operates primarily through the Body/Instinct/Mind during Sleep.
- Operates in conjunction with the Feeling/Instinct/Mind during Dreaming (REM).

Splenic Gates
Activate
Body/Instinct/Mind
The Physical Axis
|
- Tell us about danger.
- Operates in the present.
- Activate Body Intelligence in emergency responses, i.e., “Flight” response.
- Function in all States of Being.
- Regulate the immune system.
- Is the Center of Intuition.
- Is active throughout all Sleep Stages.
- Have the Same Lower Trigram, described as Wind in all Gates.
- Is energetically sensitive and connects all living beings empathically.
- Relate especially to the sense of smell.
- Activate awareness in the Splenic Center.

Solar Plexus Gates
Activate
Feeling/Instinct/Mind
The Emotional Axis
|
- Activate Emotions.
- Tell us what we need, want, and desire.
- Operate over time in cycles.
- Regulate our digestive process.
- Except for Gate 6 all Solar Plexus Gates have the same Lower Trigram, described as Fire.
- Regulate our body chemistry.
- Function in all Layers of Being.
- Operate as both an awareness and as a motor center.
- Turn off as an awareness Center during Sleep.
- Turn on as an awareness Center during Dreaming (REM).
- Can move between extremes of emotions.

 |
Sacral Gates
Activate
Life Force Instincts
(“Gut” Responses)
|
- Fuel Automatic responses.
- Register Unconscious information at all times.
- Enhance Inner responses that make people different.
- Become the Key of Life Enhancing Awareness center during Sleep and Dreaming (REM).
- Protect us when we sleep and wakes us if we are in danger.
- Tell us about Inner Responses (Our Instinctive Mind)
- Activate an incredibly powerful Motor Center.
- Function to preserve and assure life.
- Generative energy remains active and responsive at all times.
